about
Decussation (meaning: the intercrossing of fellow parts or structures), is a composition constructed by using the Golden Ratio to determine the timing of percussive sine-waves (in a similar manner to Jan Boerman) with frequencies derived from the harmonic series of a fundamental. The Fibonacci Sequence and Golden Ratio were further used to choose which harmonics to use, to set delay ratios that process the tones, and to set parameter values of distortion and FFT-based effects throughout the composition. The result is an ominous, unpredictable but cohesive mass of musical textures.
(Originally premiered on may 31st at the Studienwoche für Zeitgenössische Musik in Lüneburg, Germany, as part of a CD curated by Jorrit Tamminga)
